GM extends North America production cuts due to chip shortage

General Motors Co is extending manufacturing cuts at a few of its North America factories resulting from a chip shortage that has roiled the worldwide automotive business, the U.S. carmaker mentioned on Thursday.

The transfer’s influence has been baked into GM’s prior forecast that the scarcity may shave as much as $2 billion off this yr’s revenue.

GM’s Lansing Grand River assembly in Michigan will prolong its downtime via the week of April 26.

The plant makes Chevrolet Camaro sports activities automotive and Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans. It has been out of motion since March 15.

GM’s Spring Hill meeting in Tennessee will take downtime, beginning the week of April 12 for 2 weeks. The plant makes the Cadillac XT5 compact sport utility car, and Cadillac XT6 and GMC Acadia mid-size SUVs.
